Minoan Coming of Age: The Akrotiri Frescoes

The ancient Minoan city of Akrotiri, on the island of Santorini (a.k.a. Thera), was home to people of all ages. Among them were girls and boys who were honored during coming-of-age rites. We can understand some of what they experienced through the beautiful frescoes on the walls of the building where the ceremonies were held:

I feel this is something we've lost in our modern society, something we need to bring back to honor our young people as they move from childhood into adulthood.
