Are those things really horns?

Sir Arthur Evans christened this ancient Minoan symbol/object the Horns of Consecration. In the century since then, people have discussed the possibility that they're not actually horns. But if this strange symbol doesn't depict a pair of horns, what is it really? I have an interesting idea to offer in today's Minoan Path Blog:
